Big stars, lots of them, including Amitabh Bachchan, Rakhee, Juhi Chawla,
Karishma Kapoor, nice commercials promising powerful family drama, and
nice songs; these features lure the audience to the theater to see 'Ek
Rishta'. But once you get there, it is all downhill. The commercials show
the most powerful family drama on TV. Nothing new or appealing, just some
disjointed ideas held by flimsy threads of a famous cast, who are all
helpless to save the sinking ship of a film.
A powerful business tycoon, Vijay Kapoor (Amitabh Bachchan) is taken
for a ride by a new MBA graduate, Rajesh Purohit (Mohnish Bahl), who is
hired as a manager in his company. As the storyline continues, Purohit
mismanages the company, distances father Vijay and son Ajay (Akshay Kumar),
and marries his favourite eldest daughter Priti (Juhi Chawla). When creditors
come clamoring for the properties and home, Purohit jumps ships, along
with a few crores and his wife. Ajay marries the girl of his dreams, played
by Karishma Kapoor, without family participation due to the rift..
