Lucius's widowed mother Alice (Sigourney Weaver) who has feelings
for Edward also supports him. Edward's daughter Ivy (Bryce Dallas Howard),

than her best friend, Noah Percy ( Adrien Brody), and develops a romance
and affection for Lucius. Their relationship results in a terrible love
triangle and an ultimate sacrifice. When Lucius is injured, it is Ivy's
turn to venture into the woods and get the medication to save his life.
Eventually the secret of 'Those We Don't Speak Of' is revealed.
The young writer director Shyamalan successfully spins a tale about
the ways fear can manipulate human minds. He has created a series of
popular movies that deal with mystery. His movies are a 'work of art'
which need intellectual interpretations. As a skilled master of suspense,
in 'The Village' he brings up a community that is founded on fear. Through
the movie, he is trying to send a message of religious faith, love,
trust and hope, out to the world. It is full of intricate details and
it is different from his other films, a different kind of horror story.
In "the Village', he addresses the life of a whole community that live
in a fantasy land and make their children believe in a make believe
horror but still live in peace and harmony. He has skillfully crafted
maximum tension. This Academy Award nominated storyteller is maturing
into making movies with wider perspective. If you haven't seen his other
movies you will love this one.
The highly skilled cast is first rate and acting is superb. Phoenix
as Lucius the ever protecting hero of Ivy, whom he loves has done his
role convincingly. Among the supporting cast, Hurt, Weaver as well as
Adrien Brody as the mentally impaired friend of Ivy are great but it
is Bryce Dallass Howard who captures the heart of the movie with her
stunning performance. The daughter of director Ron Howard, steals the
show with her debut. Definitely she could be a 'Rising Star' of Hollywood.
Cinematography is excellent and sound effects are great which make the
movie more scary. Movie has some flaws but as a whole it is a well acted,
well directed, well written and well made film. The skillful way in
which the film is woven, leaves a lot of things unanswered- apt for
making a sequel. It may not be Shyamalan's best but it will leave a
long lasting impression in your mind.
We rate this movie Good.
