Based on the classic fantasy tale by C.S. Lewis, it is the first of the seven volume series "The Chronicles Of Narnia".
The story follows four Pevensie children, Peter (William Moseley), Susan (Anna
Popplewell), Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) who were send to the countryside home of a
Professor (Jim Broadbent), during the German bombing of London at the time of World War II.
At the Professor's house, the kids were practically left alone by the housekeeper
(Elizabeth Hawthorne). One day while playing hide and seek, Lucy, the youngest of the
four, happened to duck into a wardrobe and finds herself in the mysterious world of
Narnia. She wanders through the beautiful winter wonderland and meets Mr.Tumnus (James
McAvoy), a kind hearted faun who told her all about the White Witch ( Tilda
Swinton), who rules
Narnia. He also told Lucy about an ancient prophecy required to be fulfilled to get rid
of the evil
witch. Mr. Tumnus went out of his way and helped Lucy return to her own world.
When Lucy returned to the Professor's house she told her siblings about her new finding but nobody
believed her. Eventually all the children go through the wardrobe into Narnia, but Edmund seeks out
the White Witch who had offered to make him the king if he delivers his brother and sisters to her
palace. Luckily the
children meet Mr. and Mrs. Beaver (Voiced by Ray Winstone and Dawn French) who took
them to the camp of Aslan (voiced by Liam Neeson) a friendly, helpful lion. Find out
what will happen to these four kids.
Director Andrew
Adamson skillfully narrates a brilliant tale of mystery. He remains faithful
to the book and produces a visually impressive film of magic and mystery
with great CGI effects. He does a wonderful job in presenting the world
a film with the themes of faith and forgiveness. With a flawless adaptation,
the movie has a grandeur imagination, great special effects, some scary
moments as well as some battles.
The four children present a wonderful performance, especially Georgie Henley as Lucy is
excellent. Tilda Swinton as the witch is outstanding. She very well portray the seductiveness,
frightfulness and cruelty of an evil character. Aslan, the lion, looks great with his beautiful
mane and majesty.
Narnia is a fantasy world filled with magic and mysteries which has been brought to the screen
with stunning visual effects, great action sequences and fabulous animation.
Some people might correlate the film with Christian symbolism like the life,
death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as well as the transformative power of
forgiveness. It could be a delight for the young and the old alike and definitely a real treat for the
kids. Hopefully the future "Narnia" films will be as good or even better than this one.
We rate this movie VERY GOOD.
