In 1952, a 23 year old medical student, Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Gael
Garcia Bernal) and his friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna) decide to
travel across Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Peru, just for fun and adventure.
They begin a 5,000 mile journey on a motorcycle. Starting from Buenos Aires,
they continued their journey through Chile, Peru and Venezuela. Their trip was
filled with mishaps and misadventures. As they went through the uncharted
territories of South America, their fun seeking adventure becomes nerve wracking.
Ernesto was angered by the poverty that he saw in many parts of the continent.
He decides to fight for justice, for the poor and hapless people living in that
part of the world. By the time they reached Caracas, young Ernesto was ready and
set to become a revolutionary. When he started his fun filled journey, Ernesto
had no idea that his destiny will take to a path far different from being a
medical doctor.
Director Walter Salles narrates the story of "Che" with ease and
emotion. He sticks to the truth of the South America's history. Some of the
critics may argue that Salles made a whitewashed film by portraying a terrorist
as a savior of the poor. Bernal does a great job as "Che". The
transformation of Ernesto's life from a fun seeking young man to a socially
conscious adult is very well portrayed. Rodrigo de la Serna as Granado gives a
convincing performance. It is a delight to watch him.
Movie provides a tender and memorable insight into life of "Che",
one of the famous crusader for justice in the modern world. It will make you
think what "Destiny" can do to you. The Movie makes you appreciate
what you have and makes you concerned that how many people in different parts of the
world are deprived of simple necessities. But it is hard to say whether the theme is
powerful enough to create many more revolutionaries to fight for justice in the
world.
We rate this movie VERY GOOD..
