Based on books 'The Bad Beginning', 'The Reptile Room' and 'The Wide Window' by Daniel Handler, it is a story of the three Baudelaire orphans terrorized by a gothic man named Count Olaf. With the sudden demise of their parents by a mysterious fire the Baudelaire siblings Violet (Emily Browning) aged 14, her brother Klaus (Liam Aiken) aged 12 and their baby sister Sunny( Kara Hoffman and Shelby Hoffman) were all in total disarray. These kids are unusually clever and charming - Violet is a great inventor, Klaus is a reader and researcher and Sunny has sharp teeth. Their parents had left them a vast inheritance.

The executor of the family (Timothy Spall) gives the custody of the children to their nearest relative Count Olaf (Jim Carrey), a man who is a demented evil genius. Olaf was very much pleased by the children's arrival. He made them cook and mistreated them in whichever way he could and plans to steal their inheritance. When he learned that he can't legally touch the money unless the children die, he starts to plot their death.

With Violet's inventiveness, Baudelaire children escaped the first sinister plot by Olaf to kill them. After a few attempts on the children's lives, Count Olaf loses their custody and they are send to their Uncle Monty (Billy Connolly) and then to Aunt Josephine (Meryl Streep). But Olaf tracks them down no matter where they go and tries to kill them. Watch the movie and find out if the children can foil Olaf's evil plans and save their lives.

Director Brad Siberling masterfully narrates a story in which bad things happen to innocent kids- show how they are mistreated by adults, and placed in excessive peril. He has succeeded in making a paradoxically created bleak comedy with a fantasy. He cleverly combines comedy, fantasy and horror in one film. The movie is filled with special effects, wonderful visuals and beautiful imagery.

Jim Carrey plays the best sinister character as Count Olaf. He shines as a brilliant villain and is perfect for the role. All cast members have put up an excellent performance. Film will be more attractive for children, but if you are a Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep or Jude Law fan, you will love it. Even though, movie doesn't stick to the book word by word, it is a hilarious and cleverly taken film which is 'Not An Unfortunate Waste Of 2 Hours'.

We rate this movie Good.
