A rare show of exotic varieties of flowers, orchids and other plants native to Sikkim, a north east state. Held every summer during the peak flowering season, this is a spectacular event attracting people from all over India.
The tiny state of Sikkim, famous for its flora which is in full bloom during March-May has around 600 species of orchids, 240 species of trees and ferns, 150 varieties of gladioli, 46 types of rhododentrons along with a variety of magnolias and many other foliage plants. The main displays in the flower show are orchids, gladioli, roses, cacti, alpine plants, creepers, climbers, ferns, herbs etc. Seminars and lectures are held by experts in the various fields.
A food festival with Sikkimese delicacies is organised during the show. River rafting and Yak Safari are added attractions.
By Air
There is no airport in Sikkim. The nearest airport is Bagdogra near
Siliguri in West Bengal, 124 km from the capital Gangtok. Bagdogra is
11km away from Siliguri. Regular flights ply back and forth from
Bagdogra to Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi.
By Rail
The nearest railway stations from the capital Gangtok are New
Jalpaiguri (125 km) and Siliguri (144 km) in West Bengal. The railway
network connects important cities in India including Delhi, Kolkata,
Guwahati etc.
By Road
Regular bus services run by the Sikkim Nationalized Transport directly
connect Gangtok to Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri. For local
transport, Cars and jeeps are available for hire in Gangtok.
