The Other festival is India's only international avant-garde contemporary arts festival. It provides a unique platform for innovative work by talented artistes from India and abroad in the field of music, dance, drama and art of the country. Other festival was co-founded in 1998 by dancer and cultural activist Anita Ratnam (Arangham Trust) and theatre person/critic/businessman Ranvir Shah (Prakriti Foundation). Its popularity prompted Park Hotels to adopt the festival since 2002, making it The Park's The Other Festival. The Other Festival is held each year, usually from December 1-5.
The Other festival is a festival of expression in music and dance and a parallel festival to the usual classical music and dance festival held during the season. The annual multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary, supports contemporary arts though theatre and painting, sculpture and mime etc without any limits and boundaries. Aided by many professionals in the world of art, painting and advertising, The Other Festival is a group effort draws an audience of over 4000 young, urban, upwardly mobile enthusiasts. Eminent dancers from around India, the U.S., France, Canada, South Africa and Israel get together every year during the Other Festival from 1st to 5th December to present live performances.
* The other Festival was last held in the year 2006. One of the founder and co artistic director of THE OTHER FESTIVAL, Mr. Ranvir Shah (Prakriti Foundation) started his own cultural event in 2007, called THE NEW FESTIVAL which is also supported by the Park Hotel, Chennai.
