A funny & freaky toy, Kaleidoscope is a circle of mirrors which creates an illusion effect of abstract designs with the use of colorful beads, pebbles, coloured glass pieces  etc.. It works on the principle of multiple refraction where several mirrors are attached together at a particular angle.

 

Kaleidoscope makes an exciting toy for kids, which can be either purchased or made at home.

Materials
» 3 Pieces of Glass of Same Length and Size
» Cello Tape
» Gum
» Covering Paper
» Translucent Sheet of Paper
» Transparent Glass Piece
» Colorful Beads or Glass Pieces

Procedure:

For making a Kaleidoscope, you need certain apparatus like, 3 pieces of glass of same length and size, cello tape, gum, covering paper, a translucent sheet of paper, a transparent glass piece and of course some colorful beads or glass pieces..

To start with, align the glass pieces in a triangular way as shown here. Make sure that the mirror sides of the glass pieces face each other. You can use gum or tape, whichever you find comfortable, to keep the glass pieces intact. We need a transparent material like that of plastic carry bags, to cover one end of the triangle. The material used should be translucent so that it allows enough light to enter the triangle.

Once you cover one end, it is time to put the beads, glass pieces or coloured bits of shiny paper inside the triangle. For best results broken pieces of glass bangles are the ideal choice, which gives a variety of designs.

Then cover the other side of the triangle with a transparent glass piece and seal the edges of the triangle with tape or gum. For a final touch, wrap the triangle with colored paper or decorate using your imagination so as to give it an attractive look.

Now our Kaleidoscope is ready..
