Ramnagar, situated 14 km from Varanasi is the residential place of Kashi
Naresh (Former Maharaja of Varanasi). The major attraction here is the
fort known as Ramnagar fort, built in 1750A.D by Maharaja Balwant Singh
which houses a museum. Several temples are located at this place namely
Durga Temple, Chhinnamastika Temple, Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman Temple etc.
Ramnagar is also famous for the stage performance named Ramlila (Ramleela)
held every year during the Ramlila festival. This traditional style of
performance that lasts for 31 days is marked by detailed dialogues and
impressive enactments. The scenic location of the Ramnagar fort and its
surroundings near the Ganges river, has made Ramnagar a favorite spot
for movie makers.
