Kundam Thiru Vizha is the annual temple festival held at Masani Amman
Kovil located about 45kms from Coimbatore. The 18 day long festival is
celebrated with much pomp and splendor and thousands of devotees flock
to the temple during that time . The festival represents which represents
the annual Brahmorchavam in this shrine, commence with flag hoisting ceremony
on the new moon day of the Tamil Month Thai. On the 14th day, special
worship is held on the graveyard at midnight. Chithira Ther festival is
held on the 16th day. On that day, after the circumambulation of the decorated
chariot around the town, the holy fire of the 'Kundam' is lighted by 10.00
pm. On the 17th day at 9.00 A.M. devotees, in great excitement and frenzy
jump into a fire-pit sprawling to a staggering length of 40 feet for fire-walking
in fulfillment of their vows. Mahamuni Pooja is performed on the last
day of the festival, after anointment to the deity. |
