Van Vihar National Park sometimes known as Safari Park, sprawl over an area of 445.21 hectors of land is situated in the heart of Bhopal city at the foot of the Shyamla Hill adjacent to the Upper Lake. Van Vihar, declared as National Park on 26th January 1983, is the home to rich variety of birds, insects and animals of both herbivorous and carnivorous species. The fauna in Van Vihar consists of Albino Sloth bear, White tiger, Lion, Sambhar, Cheetal, Nilgai, Black buck, Chousingha, Common Langur, Rhesus macaque, Wild-boar, Porcupine, Hare etc. The wildlife ecologist can get a close view of the animals in their natural habitat. Besides these, the lake is the habitat to the local and migratory birds species and around 60 wide variety of colorful butterflies and insects. Van Vihar Safari Park is a paradise for bird enthusiasts, where one could found birds like peacocks, munias, barlets, wagtails, bulbuls, orioles, Bhura Teetar, Kala Teetar, Blue Kingfisher, Phakta and migratory birds such as Tree Pie and Drongo. The thriving flora in the park contains trees like teak, tendu, salai, palas, Kardhai , gurajan and creepers like bangoon, gomachi, malkangni and harjudi. Van Vihar National Park is maintained by the Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh according to the guidelines of the Central Zoo Authority. The best time to visit the park is in between July and September. The park is opened on all days from 7 to 11 am and 3 to 5 pm, except Tuesday. Contact Address: |
