Chittur Gurumadam is a memorial to Thunchath Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, who
is regarded as the father of Malayalam language. It is situated in Thekkegramam
near Arikkode on the banks of the River Sokanasdini. It is here that Ezhuthachan
transcribed the two great Sanskrit Epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
The exhibits here include a 'srichakra', some idols worshipped by Ezhuthachan,
a stylus, wooden slippers and few old manuscripts. Children were brought
here on Vijayadasami day, for a ritualistic initiation into learning and
to invoke the blessings from the Goddess of learning.
