Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary
 

Situated 19 km away from the city, Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is one of the most attractive bird sanctuaries in Kerala. Covering an area of 3 square kms, the estuary at Kadalundi spread over a cluster of islands in Kadalundi river is a heaven for migratory birds. It is home to 100 species of native birds and over 60 varieties of migratory birds. Terns, gulls, herons, sandpipers, whimbrels and other exotic birds flock into this place in November and returns home only by the end of April. Woodpecker, black bulbul, jungle fowl, laughing thrush, myna, kingfisher and peafowl are some of the other inhabitants here. The sanctuary has adopted many scientific methods to avoid harm to these birds and their homes. The best time to visit this remarkable place is in the early hours of the days, from December to April. One could also find various species of snakes such as Cobra, Krait, and Viper etc. 

Kadalundi river that flows into the Arabian Sea is known for the wide variety of fish, mussels and crabs. The place locally called as Kadalundi Nagaram, is a scenic area surrounded by hillocks. One of the hills, 200 m above sea level, provides a splendid view of the river mouth and the sea.
