Located at Kuttichira, Jum-a Masjid locally known as Jama palli dates
back to 14th century. This mosque is raised on a stepped pedestal and
is enclosed by masonry walls and the entrance has slanting roofs. This
single storied mosque has a largest floor area and could accommodate around
1000 worshippers at a time. The ceilings are adorned with complex wood
carvings which resembles the ancient Kerala temple architectural style.
The wooden walls inside the mosque are engraved with verses from sacred
Arabic texts. In the month of April, a Nercha festival is celebrated here
for four days. Tomb of The Malappuram Shaheed, whose brave exploits have
been immortalized in the Mappila ballads, is located adjacent to this
mosque.
