Kollur is situated about 80kms from Udupi. Kollur is believed to be one
of the seven pilgrim centers created by Parashurama .The main attraction
of this place is the famous Mookambika temple located at the foot of the
Western Ghats, on the top of Kodachadri hill . The temple is dedicated
to goddess Mookambika , who is in the form of a 'Jyotirlinga',the incorporating
aspects of Shiva and Shakti. The temple attracts thousands of tourists.
Another attraction of this place is Arishna Gundi Water falls .It is a
beautiful water fall with a special effect of sunrays falling on the water
droplets and gives a orange/yellow co lour and so called as Arishna (Turmeric/yellow)
.There is a Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary ,situated 50 km from Udupi which
spreads along the Kundapur-Kollur- Shimoga road .The main attraction of
this Sanctuary is the Lion tailed monkey. The Sauparnika river at this
place is believed to have the power to cure diseases of those who bathe
in it, because the river absorbs the elements of 64 different medicinal
plants and roots as it flows.
