It
is also known as 'Sansad Bhavan' and is a circular colonnade building
171 meter in diameter and 75 feet high. It has housed the Indian Parliament
(Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) since 1947. It was in this building the constituent
assembly sat for 3 years to prepare the constitution of free India. It
was designed by Sir Herbert Baher and is situated to the right of Vijay
Chowk. Built on 3 levels, it has a red sand stone foundation storeys,
a buff coloured storeys with 144 pillars and a small attic storeys. Specially
imported acoustic tiles were used on the walls and sound absorbing plaster
on the ceiling. The Parliament library is one of the most impressive in
Asia. The Parliament house has all the constructive geometric qualities. |
