The spectacular Jonbeel Mela is held every year during the winter season
at Jagiroad, a township located 32kms from Guwahati. In this fair, various
tribal communities of Northeast come downwards from the hills with different
kinds of products. Before the beginning of the mela, an 'Agni Puja' is
performed for the well being of mankind. The speciality of the fair
is the barter system where the people of these tribes interchange their
merchandise with the local people. Traditional dance and music performance
are also performed to enhance the celebration.
