Abhijeet Sawant was the first winner of Sony Entertainment Television's popular talent hunt show, Indian Idol (2005). The Mumbai youngster, through his Indian Idol journey, sang his way into the hearts and homes of millions of Indians. After seven months of competing against hundreds of contestants, Abhjeet with his talent,  innocent looks and smile, was crowned the Indian Idol. Abhijeet from a traditional Maharashtrian family, was the lead vocalist with his maternal uncle Sanjay Sawant's orchestra, performing at parties and weddings around Mumbai. He has also released his first album 'Aapka Abhjeet Sawant' by Sony BMG Music Entertainment, which has become very popular and also made him one of the largest-selling pop artistes of India. He also won the Best New Talent and Best Male Pop Act awards at the MTV Immies and was also nominated as MTV Youth Icon for the year 2006.
