Rajasenan, a well known director in Malayalam, debuted with the movie 'Aagraham' in 1984. As a director, he has a particular style, appealing to the masses. He mainly gives importance to comedy and family oriented subjects. His early hits include 'Pavam Crooran,' 'Soundarya Pinackam,' 'Kadinjool Kalyanam,' 'Ayalathe Adheham', 'Meleparambil Anveedu', 'Aniyanbava Chettanbava', 'Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam' and the list goes on. Each movie of his has a subtle moral to convey. However a couple of movies in between failed to click at the box office, like 'Mekhasandesham', Nakshathrakkannulla Rajakumaran Avanundoru Rajakumari' and 'Immini Nalloraal'.

Rajasenan's favourite hero in the Malayalam film industry, is Jayaram. Together they have brought out various hits with themes mainly aimed at family audiences. The films produced by this team, are all time entertainers. Some of the best examples are 'Swapna Lokathe Balabhaskaran', 'Dilliwala Rajakumaran', 'Kottaram Veettile Apputtan' and of course 'Meleparambil Anveedu' etc. Meanwhile rumour mills in the film industry, claimed that Rajasenan could not direct a film which would succeed without Jayaram, and vice versa. This apparently affected their relationship. However in 2006, they came together again, after a gap of few years, with the movie 'Madhuchandralekha', which was a success at the box office.

According to him, teaming up with a particular actor affects a director's career, as the audience then are reluctant to accept different themes from a well known director like him. When asked about not casting superstars of the Malayalam film industry, like Mammootty and Mohanlal in his films so far, Rajasenan said that his style of approach and the superstar image of these actors does not gel well with his scheme of things. He did mention though that he plans to take a movie with Mohanlal in the future.

"In our country, control over the films from the government side and censor board is essential as most of us take advantage of the freedom one has, that may in turn hurt the feelings of minorities or any other religious community", he said in an interview given to us.

A native of Pirappancode, Thiruvananthapuram, Rajasenan says he had always harboured dreams of becoming a director since childhood. During his school and college days, he along with his friends used to reenact famous plays and films. He played the background score and directed these plays, which laid the foundation for him to become a director. Besides direction, he is also a good singer and he enjoys his stint in anchoring music programmes on the mini-screen like 'Ganasamasya' on Asianet and 'Sallapam' on Doordarshan. He also has produced two serials on Surya TV, 'Snehasammanam' and 'Bhagyanakshathram'.

It is talented directors like Rajasenan who can do their bit and help the Malayalam film industry overcome the dearth in good  movies and save it from going downhill. We wish him all the luck in his future endeavors.
