Time: 18-27th February
Venue: Shilpgram near Taj Mahal
Significance: Craft and cultural Fair
Schedule 2009

A ten day event, the Taj Mahotsav held in February at Shilpgram in Agra, is a culturally vibrant platform that brings together the finest Indian crafts and Cultural nuances. The cultural extravaganza which began in the year 1992, is a festive introduction to Agra and the state of Uttar Pradesh, conducted by Uttar Pradesh Tourism. It showcases Agra, renowned for its breathtaking, centuries old monuments; and displays Uttar Pradesh's rich heritage of arts, crafts and culture.

The festivities commence with a spectacular procession inspired by Mughal splendour. Bedecked elephants and camels, drum beaters, folk artists and master craftsmen all help to recreate a visual delight reminiscent of the golden era of the Mughal Darbars. Every year the Mahotsav is celebrated with a message or theme for the world. The extensive range of crafts, cuisine and art & culture are the highlights of the festival. The food festival with exotic cuisines and delicacies include typical preparations from the interiors of Uttar Pradesh, prepared by some of the oldest exponents.

The craft Mela exhibits exquisite crafts like marble inlays, wood carvings from Saharanpur, brass and other metal ware from Moradabad, handmade carpets of Badohi, the blue pottery of Khurja, the Chikan work of Lucknow, the silk of Banares etc. One can enjoy a profusion of folk music and dances of Dundelkhand, 'Nautanki' (Drama), 'Sapera' dance of Rajasthan, Lavani of Maharashtra shayari (poetry), and classical dance performances as well as elephant and camel rides and games. A funfair with a variety of rides is also organized for children.
