Places of Interest - Pollachi | Tiruppur | Mettupalayam

Pollachi
Known for its Jaggery and cattle market, the Pollachi town is located 40 km south of Coimbatore on the way to Parambikulam-Aliyar project. It is a favourite location spot of the south indian movie makers. As it is near the Western ghars, the town has a pleasant climate throughout the year. Earlier known as 'Polil Aichi' which means 'the land of natural wealth and prosperity', the name has gradually changed to Pollachi. Pollachi is an important commercial area and it exports coconuts and tender-coconuts to all over India.

Anamalai wildlife Sanctuary, Top slip, Chinnakallar, Valparai, Parambikulam National Park are some of the tourist spots that attract tourists to Pollachi. 700 years old Subramania Swamy Thirukoil temple built by  Konga Cholas is located here. There are beautiful stone carvings like a five hooded serpent, a Yali with a chain from its mouth and carved zodiacal signs in the Subramanya temple.

Tiruppur
One of the fastest developing cities in Tamil Nadu, Tiruppur situated 50 kms east of Coimbatore, is famous for its textile industry. This knitwear capital of the country has gained universal recognition as the leading source of hosiery, knitted garments, casual wear and sportswear. The city is known by different names such as History Center, Dollar City, Knit City and Cotton City. River Noyyal, the landmark of the city divides the city in to two halves, ie. North Tiruppur and South Tiruppur. Tirupur Kumaran Statue near railway station, Town hall, Corporation memorial pillar (with Globe on its top) are some of the worth attractions here. 

Mettupalayam
Located about 52 km away from Coimbatore, Mettupalayam is a small town at the foot hills of Nilgiris on the bank river Bhavani on Coimbatore- Guddalor State Highways. It is the starting point for two of the ghat roads into the Nilgiri Hills. The train journey between Mettupalayam and Ooty is daring but cheerful as it passes through 46 km of forests, tea plantations, 16 tunnels and more than 250 bridges. The major attraction of Mettupalayam is the Kotagiri road, where one can see spotted deer's and elephants. Many temples such as Vana Bathrakali Amman Kovil, Idugampalayam Aanjineyar temple, Subramaniya swamy temple, South Thirupathi (a Private owned temple managed by the KG group), Kurunthamalai Bala Thandayudapani Murugan Kovil, Kumaran Kundru Murugan Kovil, Karamadai Ranganadhar Kovil are situated near Mettupalayam. Black Thunder, the water theme park is near to Mettupalayam.
