Aji River and Dam
Aji
river and dam, situated at a distance of 8kms, are the main source of water
supply to the city of Rajkot. River Aji is the most important river of Saurashtra.
It originates from the hills of Sardhar and Lodhika region and travels through
most taluks of Rajkot district before flowing into the Arabian Sea. The name
'Aji' is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning mother. The dam was built by the
government of gujarat. The downstream area of the dam is maintained by the Rajkot
Municipal Corporation. A beautiful step garden, amusement park for children,
zoo, bird aviary, crocodile park are there where the citizens can spend their
leisure time.
Lal Pari Lake and Randerda
This popular picnic spot is located at a distance of 5kms from
Rajkot. It is
one of the most exotic natural spots on the outskirts of the city and is a popular bird watching venue. The lakes are
roosting places for different species of birds including rare migratory
birds. Some of the species of
birds found here include black tailed godwit, rosy pastor, pheasant tailed jacan, purple moor hen, wigeon, common teal, pelican and
spoon bill.
