Hyderabad is a major shopping center of India that offers
everything from antiques to Handicrafts to Jewellery and from dresses to leather
goods to Pearls and semi-precious stones. The city is a one-stop-destination
for the rare, luminescent, soft, tear drop pearls. The twin cities of Hyderabad
and Secundrabad are divided into three major zone, viz. Southern Zone comprising
of Lad Bazaar, Charminar, Patther Gatti. Central Zone comprising Begum Bazar,
Mozamjahi Market, Abids, Sultan Bazaar, King Koti and bank street. Northern
Zone comprising M.G.Road, General Bazaar, Monda Market, Begumpet and Somajiguda.
Laad Bazaar
Located west of Charminar is one of the main shopping area of Hyderabad, Laad
Bazaar. A number of stores can be seen on this one kilometer stretched narrow
line shopping center which is mainly targeted to women. Gorgeous and colourful
bangles, semi-precious stones, glistening pearls are the popular items sold
over here. The place is also famous for its dress materials, bridal wear, henna,
gold-coated articles, cosmetics, crockery, etc.
Begum Bazaar
Begum Bazaar located in Alfganj is a major business/ commercial area of the
hyderabad. This largest market is located two kilometers from the Naya Pul bridge
in the old city. The place is known mainly for shopping whole sale groceries,
dry fruits and brassware. House old commodities of all sizes, shapes and brands
at the best prizes are available here. Top
Sultan Bazaar
Sultan Bazaar, earlier called Residency Bazaar, is located between the Residency
and the Badi Chowdi. It is the most busiest commercial centre in the city. Anything
can be purchased from here but the popular items include women's wear, slippers,
shoes, bangles and other trinkets.
Mahatma Gandhi Road
The M.G.Road which lies about 2km from the city is one of the busiest roads
of the twin cities. The road complex has several new, trendy apparel show rooms,
boutiques and gift emporia. The general bazaar and the cloth market called tobacco
bazaar are familiar haunts for shoppers and bargain hunters. General
Bazaar is the second largest whole sale market after Begum Bazar from
where household commodities, kids articles and bangles are available at the
best prizes. Tobacco Bazar is the second biggest Saree wholesale
market in Andhra Pradesh. All types of sarees are available here and it lies
adjacent to general bazaar.
Some of the biggest showrooms for jewellery, textiles, handicrafts,
footwear, readymade and general goods are located in the areas of Basheerbagh,
Abids and Nampally. These places are known for their
exquisite pearls and semi-precious stones. The price for natural pearls ranges
from Rs 20 per gm to Rs 80 depending upon the quality.
Apart from these major shopping areas, there were a number
of shopping malls in the city.
